The Problem of Anorexia Nervosa
Diseases | August 27, 2010 | ShareA common thing heard in the teenage community especially girls is ‘ive had a lot of food since morning’ and when one asks these girls as to what exactly they have eaten, the answer just amazes you or makes you wonder whether one can ACTUALLY survive on a glass of cold coffee and cookies all day. Different people give different excuses. Some might say that they actually don’t feel hungry while others might say that they are on a diet and are working towards loosing weight, but it all usually boils down to one thing, Anorexia Nervosa.
Anorexia Nervosa is an eating disorder which usually starts with the above mentioned excuses of not eating. Girls fail to understand that it is a psychological threat to them. A persons refusal to maintain a healthy body with the fear that they might gain weight which would add to their already distorted body leads to anorexia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa is basically a mental illness which can affect men and women equally and usually the consequences are not that good with some cases leading to death. It is an eating disorder which starts with forcefully starving oneself, but slowly gets adjusted to their state of hunger and over a period of time their state of living. One of the most visible symptoms of anorexia nervosa is when a person suddenly starts loosing weight but still thinks that they are over weight. They tend to do excessive amounts of exercise, take extreme amounts of laxatives and refuse almost every meal offered to them.
Some other symptoms which can determine anorexia nervosa are lack of stamina and weakness, obsessive talk about calorie intake, refusing to eat in public, growth of fine hair on face and body, depression and wanting to be in a state of solitude and live away from friends and family etc.
It is still extremely hard to determine the ill effects of this illness from the but basically one gets into a complete state of gradual internal self destruction which majorly affects pretty much every part of the body including the brain and the bones without having any clue about. It is therefore extremely important to treat such a disease as this can lead to long term problems even death. Its treatment includes some basic motives such as restoring the persons health, changing the psychology of the person etc to eliminate any possibility of falling ill again. This is normally done with the help of a psychologist and a general physician.
