The most unique creation of the divine fate are the human beings. The human body is undeniably the grandest and one of the most complex machines ever built. But the most unfortunate part is that most of the human beings take their bodies too much for granted and do not think about it unless something goes wrong. In such situation many times we pay the price for such types of unawareness.

By being unaware of the marvels of the human body we fail to appreciate our own glory. It is in this context that it becomes imperatively important to ensure a proper health, also it is vital to underscore that knowledge of one’s body, its organs and systems and its functioning and how they work can be used to preserve good health and fitness and this prolongs the enjoyment of our lives.

Besides thorough knowledge of organs and systems of the human body, many external factors also determine the fact how we are to remain healthy such as – food habits, tension free life, regular exercise and necessary health activities.

One of the most important points to remain healthy and keep diseases at bay is relaxation, the more tensed one is, the more chances of being confronted with mental and digestive disorders. For better quality of life on every level, it is important to give the body a chance to unwind, be realigned, pampered and re-energized. Meditation is one of the very effective methods to relieve tension. This would lead to positive thinking. Deep breathing is the instant way of soothing all the sprained nerves and makes them calm down. The effect is abrupt. There is general relaxation and there by tension-free physical and mental system.

Healthy food habits leads to healthy living. Putting on the feed bag is like survival test. Each time you eat, you are equivocating your odds against heart disease, cancer, diabetes, stroke and scores of other diseases that affect the common man in his life span of 50 to 70 years. The problem is most of the people do not think of food as medication, but in reality, it is the single biggest medication we are showing to. When an average person tends to eat same amount of food day in and out, his metabolism steadily becomes tardy, that means you burn less calories making you vulnerable to weight gain. So the question comes how much is enough for oneself? It depends on age, activity level and current weight, nutritionists advocate from six mini meals to three small meals a day but all balanced and several snacks of fruits, vegetables or nuts to keep energy levels balanced. Pay attention to what you eat. Touch, smell and taste the food, there is tendency to over eat if you don’t pay attention to the food you eat.

There should be no alcohol intake during meals, alcohol affects and dulls the satiety signals, making you more likely to over eat. It is imperative to acknowledge that what you eat is extremely important, so eat smartly.

A relaxed and comfortable sleep is required to recharge the body and freshen it up. Normally, a people’s sleep needs vary extremely and change during the life cycle. Adults need 7-8 hours of sleep per night. During old age, sleep diminishes to an average of 6.5hours a night. A sleep problem is a serious one as it affects daytime performance and behavior. Lack of proper sleep results in digestion problems, drowsiness and can provide a fertile ground to seed of many diseases. Hence it is important to have good sleep. Most of the sleeping trouble is due to extraneous causes that can be set right in a simple manner. People lose sleep over emotional and physical problems. Disturbed sleep can be traced to mild anxiety to depression of anything and everything from death of friends/spouse, mid life illness, financial crisis or retirement. Apart from them alcohol, pain killers, smoking, caffeine are major sleep killers. Cutting down on alcohol, cigarettes, caffeinated soft drinks and avoiding heavy meals before bedtime, helps to sleep well. Midnight snack of hot milk and biscuits induce good sleep. Never oversleep or nap during daytime because of a poor night’s sleep.

Regular exercise is good towards a healthy life. There are many machines and appliance available to tone up your muscles and keep you fit. But experts say there is no substitute to regular exercise and balanced diet for being in good physical shape. Machines can only supplement the development of a healthy body. One of the simplest exercises to start the day is going for a bit of jogging and stretching. Fitness experts look upon flexibility as the base of the fitness triangle; the others compromise of the body’s aerobic fitness besides muscular strength and endurance. Muscles lose their elastic ability and capacity if not stretched properly. Stretching exercises reduces stress by relaxing the muscles, adding to your general feeling of well-being.
