FITNESS – Changing your Mindset !
Health and Food | December 21, 2011 | ShareAll the riches in the world would be of no use if one doesn’t possess the health to enjoy it. Hence, having a sound mental and physical physique is of utmost priority to any individual.
However, with the hectic, fast paced schedules of modern life the major complaint brought forth by many individuals is the scarcity of time to do physical exercise. This is a major issue as long hours of sitting at one place in front of the computer doing a lot of mental work can lead to a sedentary lifestyle and ultimately it is the human body- the health of the person concerned that faces the brunt of the lack of physical activity. One of the major impacts of a sedentary lifestyle is accumulation of belly fat and once accumulated it becomes really very difficult to loose weight from this part of the body.
Excess fat accumulation in any part of the body has got serious implications since chances of heart attack, diabetes, cardiac arrest are on a high for obese people. Besides this, it causes a lot of laziness and dizziness and therefore resulting in reduced levels of concentration.
On one hand the boom of the IT sector in India has led to high levels of income generation by recruiting around a lakh of young IT graduates from all over India and hence reducing unemployment levels and increasing GDP of the country as a whole by many levels but on the other hand it has also taken a toll on their health. Long hours of work with no time for physical exercise and partying hard on weekends accompanied by squandering away their hard earned salaries in malls eating in fast food restaurant chains like McDonalds etc. have given way to bad eating habits ultimately leading to poor physical and mental strength, which just doesn’t end there but has a long lasting effect on their future generations also since such poor habits are transferred from parents to their children who also end up following suit. Besides this, for young working women class who are not yet married, obesity leads to other serious complications also like pregnancy disorders etc.
So how to curb the negative effects of such a sedentary life style or in better words voicing the concern of major population, “How to tackle the challenge of allocating appropriate time for physical exercise?”
In my perspective, time here is not the constraint, the constraint here, is the body’s resistance to change. Since the body has adapted itself to the sedentary lifestyle, hence now it becomes increasingly difficult for it to change i.e. to shift to a new healthy lifestyle of doing exercise.
By convention, the human body prefers comforts and luxuries to hard work i.e. easy way to hard way. So doing strenuous exercises is not a natural state for the human body. So, a better idea is to replace exercises with sports like basketball or badminton or football in which there is adequate amount of physical activity plus the body also doesn’t feel it is doing any strenuous exercise. In a way you are enjoying the process.
Hence the need of the hour is that companies should allot a fixed amount of a day’s activity to sports like aerobics dance etc. in which besides having a social interaction, it also provides for people to enjoy that time only for their own self where they release the stress that they have accumulated the whole day and also stay physically fit. Thus, achieving dual benefits.
Emphasis should also be on developing healthy food habits. Only once a while fast food should be consumed, the rest of the time more of green vegetables, fresh fruits and proteins should form the part of diet.
Following the above mentioned tips on a regular basis would surely lead to desired results of a healthy mind and a healthy body. And who on Earth does not crave both of this !!
