A Healthy home
Health and Happiness | August 26, 2010 | ShareYour home is supposed to be more of a heavenly abode without any thing to fear of or any such thing which might posses a danger for you or your family especially any sort of health hazard. But there are hardly any houses which are found to be completely free of health risks and might end up affecting ones health adversely. One might consider dust to be the only thing which a household might encounter which affects one’s health, but there are plenty of other factors which affects the human health as well. Things such as garbage, toxic chemicals, faulty electric system, bad ventilation, pests etc are majorly responsible for health problems developed within the house. It is therefore important to keep in check the smallest of the things within the house which might be leading you to live in an unhealthy environment. One can easily achieve such atmosphere by practicing regular maintenance of the house and be a little more observant of their surroundings. Having a clean house also affects an individual psychologically as living in a clean house gives a very happy and calm feeling.
Give below are a few attributes which would lead to a healthy home:
Ensure that the atmosphere within the house is dry and does not contain excess of moisture. Moisture could be a resultant of leaking pipes, molds, wet ceiling etc which might lead to asthma and various other allergies. Having moisture and damp walls also houses numerous numbers of insects, termites and rodents who find comfort in rotten and messy environments.
It is extremely important that there is minimal dust and uncomfortable noise in the house as even though asthma affects the health, regular and uncomfortable noise creates a very unhealthy environment which majorly affects a person psychologically thereby affecting the peace of mind and health. Some of the common noises can be resulting from leaking taps, insects, electronic items, surroundings etc. Some of the common sources of intrusion of dust in the house could be from shoes which were worn outside, through cracks in the window or the wall, through ventilation systems, termites etc.
To avoid such cases one can ensure that the shoes are left outside the door or there is a specific compartment where the shoes could be kept which reduces the possibility of spreading dust around the house. Always make sure that the ventilation systems are working properly and do a regular checkup to ensure that they are not faulting in any way. Moisture is another reason which might lead to excess dust contamination.
It is important to keep a check on the electronic appliances within the house. Faulty machinery might lead to expulsion of harmful gasses such as carbon monoxide, CFC, nitrogen dioxide etc which majorly affects the health and might lead to some extreme consequences. Always ensure that the appliance being used in the hose is not very old and even if they are performing properly. The gases released within the house once inhaled can lead to severe chronic illness, head aches, nausea, black outs, fatigue and in some cases might require hospitalization. Such gases can also come from cars parked in the garage, smell coming from a neighboring source, fireplace etc.
It is also important to do a regular pest control in the house as there are plenty of places within the house where it is not possible to locate the pests. Having pests within the house increases chances of having respiratory related problems while some pests can also cause major diseases.
Unlike a century ago when houses were designed and developed with the main motive of keeping a good health within the house, today the link seems to have broken where people care more about how the house looks and the various gadgets they can fill it with not understanding the fact that the state of one’s house directly affects one’s health.
One should understand that a house is more like an environment where the atmosphere within the house is what affects the health. So if you think that pollution is the reason why your health is getting affected, think again!!
